We are receiving unconfirmed reports that Comet Cable is to be taken over by Futuresat the company that operates Srilakvahini. It was reported in the TV Radio Sri Lanka blog under the blog post "Management Crisis at Srilakvahini" that at the moment there is a tussle going on within the management of Futuresat. We are not sure how this will become a reality amidst that tussle.
According to information that are receiving it seems that the digital transmissions will commence in January. It also seems that the digital box can be reserved. However we repeat this is not a confirmed report.
Well at least lets hope that this is true otherwise Comet will get smashed up by the competition.

I think this will work.. and looking at comet history of management crises. its good match :) even a kapuwa cant do better job then this .. do companies with management issues. maybe will do better then anyone .
only thing worthy left in comet is their pay TV license other than their customer base.
The pertinent question is whether these customers will invest some more bucks in getting digital equipment of sri lakvahini or will they move to another operator with huge potential in DTH with the same investment.
What rubbish!
I wont trust these government related buggers to do anything good.
Maybe Srilakvahini signed up for CineMAX America (american night time only - best of sex) and Playboy TV.
CBNsat is my choice and no gov-bug will change it.
Guys/Gals!!
Don't be hasty. Just WAIT about 6 - 9 months and THEN decide. Asset Media was originally planning on launching their service (before buying out CBNSAT) in April 2007, and SLT too is said to come up with a TV service once ADSL2+ service is launched mid 2007.
W A I T and you may have the choice of selecting the best service.... PRICES are likely to come down too. The more service providers the better for all of us.
I reserved my digibox
if you have to make a decision today then the obvious choice is CBNSAT. cause the potential is enormous considering that Malaysia telecom has a bit of clout with content providers similarly SLT with NHK telecom backing will have a similar background but is yet to be launched.
sri lakvahini paint a rosy picture but they are yet to be launched. go on solid principles for your decision as support from connected places fall out just like they are built up and anyway the people make the choice every 5 years and if in case it goes to the other side the picture will not be so rosy as it is today. so solid principle is the criteria.
its your money make a informed decision cause its a investment for your entertainment and a decision will effect you on the long run.
i phoned comet they don't know anything about this digi matters... the guy who reserved digi box .. may i know where and how did you do it ??
i also checked with comet abt the digital system & the guy their said that he does not know anything abt digital.
srilakvahini is on C band which means a lot of noise and unwanted interference but Ku band systems is the best option cause either they give a good picture or nothing at all. every tech savy fellow knows in order to achieve DVD quality and CD sound most providers go for KU band.
Although during heavy rain there is a tendency for drop in levels in quality of signal in KU band but no fading ,noisy or drop in quality that the eye can notice in picture or sound.Very rarely that you have a total signal failure and even those are limited for a few minutes and thats the reason that so many operators choose KU band as C band will give a lot of noise and fading of picture during rain and a slight noise is there anyway as telecommunications interuupt C band transmissions.
check out packages offered on www.lyngsat.com or check any write up on such comparisons on the net.
If srilakvahini is serious about DVD quality and CD sound they better use a KU band and not C band although a whole lot of crap is written in their web sites about the amount of channels that can be accomodated on C band. Even though it makes business sense the quality just cant be compared.
I just phoned Mr Kithsiri,Production Manager at Sri Lakvahini (4941735) and he said that they will shift to KU Band with the takeover but will continue with the C band for FTA.
He said with the government backing,They will make it the best DTH provider in the country,The ZEE PACKAGE,DD SPORTS.NEO SPORTS and sky will be there with the relaunch.
Yeah. We know the sky will by there. Its already here isn't it.
I can see where our tax money is going to.
Tsunami camp inhabitants lose supply of food, clothing, etc.
Comet Cable DTH service suddenly erupts in to service.
Remember that CBNsat has backing of Telekom Malysia. Its a mighty empire and won't let a small thing like Comet upset them.
However much money or whatever they put in to it, it wont be easy with Dialog.
Also remember that Satnet has government backing. There is going to be a mighty clash here !
I still do not have a clear picture.
Does comet going to introduce digital, if yes when?
cos when i called them they said that they are not going digi in the recent future.
Appriciate if someone can tell me whether it is a good idea to cancel comet contract & getting cbnsat!
I feel that the administrators of this blog should intervene & give us a clear idea abt the comet cituation.
Because finally what we are expecting is the best value for our money. As far as I know comet is going digital from about 3 years back.
comet customer are is clueless. i think we know stuff more then them. i phoned this kithsiri guy he was out. not sure they are telling the truth or not.
don't make any changes now. WAIT for some months. there will be more cable providers mainly SLT. after that decide. i dont see any problem with comet for the moment. when some one start giving broadband internet with cable TV. then i will change to them no second thoughts.. :D

Comet Cable in an email to us during the middle of this year said that they will go Digital by the end of the year.
So towards the end of the year since there was no indication of the digital launch we sent them an email asking when the switch over is expected.
We have not got a reply for that email to date for our inquiry so we feel that the digital plans have either being dropped are postponed again due to the management conflict.
Looking at the current situation I think Comet will lose most of existing customers by say end of january to CBNSAT.
Also by the time SLT introduces cable tv then i think CBN will have a very big number of customers.
will comet refund any amount of money if one of their customers wants to terminate their contract?
I don't think they will refund. but you can try. i had time to get back the money i paid for the digital decoder after year. they said only thing they can do is add that amount to monthly payment. i had to sought few managers to get my money back. so good luck and let us know.
the guy who said "harrold" will go digital end of this year use to send us the monthly news letter VIA email. that also missing for some months so hope he didn't loose his job making that comment ;)
I am just curious. How many subscribers does comet have?
believe it was 20000 customers. No growth with current capacity as it is saturated. How can one offer more channels when capacity nor financial resources are there? digital is the way forward and hope that will be done as they are too late now and will be worse with SLT also starting up.
end winner will be viewers with choice but that would rob 20000 customers of their investment who are with comet.
Comet Cable expand their transmission throughout Sri Lanka
We have received a report saying Comet Cable officials (Multi Vision (pvt) Ltd.) talked with Malaysia’s Measat Global BHD to provide comet cable services throughout in Sri Lanka by using DTH technology. (Like CBNSat technology)
Malaysia’s satellite operator Measat global invested one billon Malaysian rupees to their new satellite called “MEASAT-3”. This satellite will under go series of orbit tests. And process will take about four to six weeks. MEASAT-3 is expected to be operational by the end of January 2007. Company further says they are expecting to give their service to three south Asian cable operators an India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. But in that press report they didn’t mentioned the Sri Lankan cable operators’ name.

Transfer assets of Comet Cable is BLOCKED by Southern Development Authority of Sri Lanka who claim that they are the owners of the licence used by Ruhuna 2001 Multivision to provide pay television services!!
For more details see the advertisement on page 37 of today's Daily News.
Looks as if Comet Cable subscribers are in for a tough time!!
This lanka "Media" outlook guy named Anjana seems to be mad and off his head,He is no differant to the drunken master at Sri Lakvahini "Kithsiri",.Nowhere in the news item it is mentioned of Comet and comet is not a cable company.
Further the blog admin of lankamedia outlook should attend a English class and the English he writes in his blog is real amusement.
I ALSO WENT THROUGH THIS LANKAMEDIA BLOG AND THE ENGLISH USED BY THE ADMIN IS PATHETIC AND LAUGHING STOCK.HE SEEM TO SURVIVE ON GOSSIP AND IS ADDING FURTHER SPIES TO THEM.
YEH,AS ONE OF THE PREVIOUS BLOGGERS SAID HE SHOULD BRUSH UP HIS ENGLISH AND IF UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE IN SINHALA OR TAMIL
The SDA advertisment is in response to the purpoted takeover by Srilakvahini,And it seems that the deal has been indefeneitly put off and all indications are that it will never take place.
So all the Comet guys who were laughing at CBNsat subscribers will now have to eat their own words and use the antenna as a BBQ grill,
