Comet Cable has not taken any steps to reply our emails regarding their future plans or what the future holds for their subscribers.
Some reports indicated that a message was flashed across the Star Package on channels such as Star World, Star Movies, Star Plus on Comet Cable saying "THIS CABLE NETWORK HAS LARGE PAYMENT DUE AND LIABLE FOR DISCONNECTION" on May 7th/8th. We are unable to verify the accuracy of the said message.
Subscribers have informed us that they have received the programme guides for the month of May. What we understand is that Comet Cable will have to release a certain segment of its frequencies for the Wimax services and have therefore been asked to convert to digital to continue serving customers. What Comet may do is release those frequencies and drop some channels and continue on the remaining frequencies until they convert to digital. We are not sure whether this possible and a knowledgeable person in this field is welcome to give his/her thoughts.

I am a commet cable subscriber, with all this June 1st dead line and digital talk i was confused and concerned. Last month i inquired with a customer relations office of commet and they assured me that they are going digital after July and that we have to purchase the digital de coder which may cost around 6000 rupees and there will be about 60 channels. I take their word for it. Though this is not officially announced to us, ill take their word for it. All what i know is that commet always tries their best to give the best for their subscribers. I ma very satisfied with them, and at the mean time i hope that commet will not let us down.

Even if they are getting around to it, they have made a sad mistake in not notifying or having any subscriber awareness re this issue, thus losing over 30% of their customer base, up till now. More are on the way out...so thats comet management style for you!

I checked the DTV blog the guys over there are very happy cos HALLMARK channel today.
I think comet is far ahead than DTV.Eventhough they say 30 channels 50% of the channel lineup is hindi.COmet cbale has only 1 hindi channel.
Also I doubt that government will takaway the frequencies on the 1st.This is not gonna happen.
LBN will be officially launching digital service in June.Initial charge is 11,000 and monthly Rs.1,100 for 60 channels.

LBN is digital even before March 2006. There is no question about digital launch.
I am a long standing comet customer but as soon as Dialog activates the 3rd transponder in 1st week of june they will be showing Star package and Ten sports i will be switching over to Dialog tv. There is no question that if they get Star channels & Ten they will have a better line up that Comet and better picture quality the only downside is no signal during heavy rain time.
So long comet you were the pioneers but due to greed the company got stuck i feel sorry for the ppl who work there they are doing the best possible job under trying circumstances specially the technical guys. hope these guys will be ok

I am a comet customer, for sure comet have all the important channels now except for Zee channeles , HBO signature @ Discovery Travel and Living but after activating their 3rd transponder they will have the best line up by a mile. can comet compete with that lineup? if they can for sure i will stay with comet but realistically they dont have a chance in hell. thats why i will be moveing over to Dialog once they have launched the new channels.

Guys, you need to do something else other than shouting and fighting in this blog. You need to go out in public, get together, and try to save Comet. Maybe they won't close on June 1st (Friday), but of course SLT will be angry that they cannot launch their WiMAX service. Diaog has already launched theirs (on a different frequency).
SO guy, get together like the Dialog subscribers did and do something to make Comet get up-to-date.
As for me, I am sorry for what I said in the last few weeks. I am still against LBN for my personal reasons, but me jumping in to this place is absurd. Sorry guys!

But anyway, everyone and everything is better than its competition in some way. Comet has high picture quality. DTV has bad pixelation. Comet has the best channel selection in Colombo. DTV doesn ot have STAR.
But you customers should force Comet management to improve the service. As far as I see, the Comet management is not bothered at all about their customers. They just take money from customers and give the service. Analog outdated technology. High interference at times. Comet management is doing nothing so far to improve the service.
So best of luck to you customers and to the Comet management. Personally I dont care whether Comet shuts down or not. All I know is that Comet will be forced to close down sooner or later (nevermind June 1st) if they do not improve their service.

hey rahdus, DTV can increase the customers to 1000000, because soon they are going to give connections free of charge.
Like free sim option came long back.
Can you please tell why the hell to give free connections when DTV is selling at least 100 connections are month. The real bullshit is nothing is working out for DTV, they thought they can sell 5000 connections with world cup but nothing happen like that.

To all commet subscribers, the june 1st scare we had is gone, but commet has to put their act together now, lets all of us (subscribers) push commet to upgrade the technology.
In one of my earlier blogs i mentioned that commet promised me that they will go digital after July with more channels. lets all of us call them i mean ALL of us and ask for confirmation and updates regarding this, if not there is a chance that we may be too late. SO lets do it guys , lets start by calling them and finding out and then lets plan the next action.
