Comet still continues........

Comet is still live and kicking, and is great news for those who thought that Comet may loose some of its frequencies on June 1st but as of now everything seems good and hopefully it will stay that way. Even we were under the impression that on June 1st something may happen since Comet was not replying to our emails either.

Now since the day has passed without any incident it is best for Comet Cable to get their digital transmissions off the ground and start competing with the rest of the pay television operators in Sri Lanka.

We hope Comet Cable management will confirm to us the date of their digital launch.

We hope that Comet Subscribers will make use of this forum to exchange ideas instead of concentrating on accusing and fooling other pay television operators and hopefully subscribers of other pay television operators will stay away from this forum.

i need to know from other comet users. have any one notice HBO quality had drop very badly. even hard to read the text on it (small ones ) ??

Anonymous said...

annon @ 1:00:00

when i checked today morning @ 8:00 am there was no drop in HBO quality.

Comet really must start doing something regarding getting some new channels but sadly i dont think that there will be any good news

Dialog has started wimax operations so i guess comet is using the frequency allocated for SLT good thing for comet that SLT guys are so lazy/inefficent

TechnoGuy Sri Lanka said...

Hello Comet Subscrbers!

The problem around the cable tv market is that most providers are lazy, the customers are typical Sri Lankan madmen, and there is no ocmpetition as such. This results in all services working very slowly and lazily.

So far, only LBN and DTV have even taken a few steps forward. Comet is stagnated in the same position. It has been so for years now.

So customers of all pay television services should just stop fighting verbally and do something to improve the market.

If Comet gets its act up and running, the pay television market wll heat up and things will get better for everyone, not just comet subscribers.

So guys, do a help for everyone by persuading the Comet management to upgrade their technology, before they are crushed by the competition. Because, once Dialog TV gets tehir new channels, they will have the complete channel base of Comet plus more. Then Comet will be in real trouble.

The Frequency Problem
The TRC is likely to take up the matter soon. Because Dialog has already begun tests of their WiMAX network. SLT is still stuck with Comet hogging their frequencies.

SLT will be very angry about this. A 10 days gap between SLT's and Dialog's WiMAX launches could make a large difference. So SLT will try to start test transmissions as soon as possible.

How it can be solved
SLT will only use a few of Comet's frequencies. Comet can then upgrade to Digital. Then they can provide at least the existing 18 channels on a few frequencies using compression. Of course, picture quality will decrease, but there will still be a service. And the signal will not weaken over distance.

So subscribers of all pay television operators: Stop fighting and work together. Make Comet, LBN and DialogTV stronger and create competition. No Competition = Awful Service!

cable said...

I totally agree with what TechnoGuy has said as customers what we want is a good service lets stop all this fighting and work together towards that

The SatLanka.com website is advertising Dialog TV (only outside SRI LANKA)and in that there is the Star package and Tensports and some more channels. Please check and comment.

Anonymous said...

I called the number on the site and asked about one of the packages The african one which has supersport 1 to 7 the person told me it will initially cost 85,000 for six months (which includes C-Band dish,....) and thereafter 4500/- per month rental

sonik said...

My god!! 4500/=?? thats a rip off neh. and newayz, i think it must be illegal. you would probably need a huge dish, hence the big cost. otherwise a c band dish plus reciever and lnb would cost roughly 20,000. and who knows about whether its a hacked decoder?

As a comet customer i have tell you that i am not frusrated or jealous. i've used comet for 7 years and enjoyed it tremendously especially last year when the football world cup was on and only comet was broadcasting.

Now the time has come to move on i will be getting a DTV connection when the new channels are introduced but only if it contains star package & Ten sports

I will be getting DTV for 8900/- not the 17,000 ppl paid earlier as a consumer this makes me very happy

i am just a customer i dont own comet so i dont get any money if they do well or not.i dont get jealous or frusrated either i just get the best deal in town.

Get a life there are better things to do then promotting the biggest profit making company in SL for free

Aiyo!
dialog got new channels. comet's top channel ten sports is no longer top for comet. now dialog has it for cheaper price, more value (why pay 1500 for 18 channels when you get over 30 for 1600?).

dont know what comet idiots will think of next. they will surely find another excuse against dialog, but unfortunately nothingthe foolish customers say and do will save them. nothing the coemt management says or does will save them either, becuase comet management never says or does anything!

AIYO!

Paww, these DTV bloggers can't stand the fact that commet did not shut down on june 1st. Now they are frustrated and running riot in this blog. and it shows in this blog how frustrated they are, or else why would they come to this blog. SO guys just ignore them dont distrub them let them get rid of their frustration and anger in this blog. have pitty on them. Paw machan.

The writing is on the wall for comet called them and asked about new channels the answer was new channels "within 2 or 3 months" and big surprise no exact date

what a joke do these guys think their customers are numbskulls so for me its bye bye comet and helloo DTV

I really feel sorry for guys who are working there but it will be a good riddance of James scobie this guys salaray package is more than 100,000 aussie dollars a year what a crook. he is also misleading shareholders of the company that currently owns comet telling them that he is very hard at work looking for a buyer but in fact living the good life here

Anonymous said...

looks like that guy envy james scobie ( who ever he is) machan why are you bothered howmuch he gets, and we are not interested in those things. and if you have choosed DTV to commet please do so you dont have to advertise here. Or is Dialog paying you to do so. so dont suck dialogs bum. Just beat it kid.

Anonymous said...

anon @ 2:01

James scobie is the suddha who is the ceo of comet(where you work)
I comented here for the benifit of genuine comet customers to give them info on what to do in the future. No reliable info is coming from you guys

comet customers should be intrested in what scobie earns as this is the guy customers should put a law suit against when comet suddenly closes down in the event of SLT starting WiMax.

so anon @2:01 what are yo intrested in ? pls elaborate so i can comment on those matters

Anonymous said...

@ anon @ 02.01,

No one needs suck anyones bum. Blogs are for commenting on issues. OK, so comet blog should consist of suggestions and ideas to improve the service. Likewise all other blogs are for the same purpose. Why dont you give us an indication what is it that you expect from comet, and how you, as a customer are handling the current status? Or are you blogging for sheer boredom?
Wise up. We as customers of all DTH and cable TV providers expect a fantastic service, so lets hear what you got to say re comet. Its in a sad state!

Anonymous said...

Hey guys, we are getting stranded. We are getting the same old channels but no improvments. Hope comet will do something to improve the situation.

Anonymous said...

comet is never going to see the future!

digital is down the shit hole with their license. even if tehydo not shut down, they will be crushed by dialog tv and slt iptv.

aiyo! comet is finished for good. so are its shit customers.

Anonymous said...

Hope they come down on the price. Is anyone is going to start DTH services in Sri Lanka. What about TVLANKA. The are giving Rupavahini FTA. Hope they start DTH then there will be a compition.

HSJAYA said...

dont fight among yourselves. After all we all are cable tv customer. Cant we help each other to obtain best services from our service provider.

HSJAYA said...

Why all DTV bloggers try to insult other cable tv customers. Are you all superior to them. Let Comet and LBN tv exist. It is also good for DTV customers. As long as there is competition in the market service providers will try to give a good service to their customers . Otherwise those companies cannot survuve in the long run. If COMET and LBN is not there DTV will have a monopoly and they will not care about the customers. So get together and help each other to get better service from all three cable opertaors.

Anonymous said...

Remember in all this the winner is the content provider we just make them more richer they will enitce operators to sign up exclusive and end up making thier buck much faster , look at whats happening in india and also maldives the government decides whether the content will be exclusive so there wont be any cat fights. At the end of the day the content game will be matched the only thing that will make the differance would be service and value addition lets look for that and stop behaving like children complaining all the time about who has the bigger GUN.

HSJAYA said...

Yes thats right. As long as we fight among ourselves we will not get best for us. If there is something good in LBN lets fight to get it for DTV and COMET. Likewise if there are good things in DTV lets getogether and get it for COMET and LBN. We will not achieve anything by fighting and insulting each other. Lets direct that energy to get a better service from Cable TV Operators

@CABLE

Thank you for that bit of 'Breaking News'.
Whoever has bought the shares would have done some kind of prior 'market assessment' and has seen some potential for Comet Cable. That person obviously expects to develop Comet further to exploit this potential. No one in his right mind would have purchased the shares just to close down the Station. This is good news for us. At least we can now expect to hear of impending changes in the near future.
The new buyer may have also negotiated with TRC for an extension of time to introduce digital technology, which would explain why the June 01st deadline passed without any fuss.

Anonymous said...

Can we find out who has bought the shares ? can it be a local or foreign company ?????

Anonymous said...

boys and girls,

first you all need to stop fighting about DTV/LBN and COMET and get your facts right.

DTV has no future, cos when Dialog and SLT starts IPTV, it will be the next generation of pay TV. LBN going Digital will be much better than IPTV, but unfortunately their cable laying requires huge investments which they cannot make. Comet do not seem to have a future as yet, but can be turned around and become as good as IPTV if someone right come to the driving seat, other than James Scobie and the Australians who took over from the previous owners through some legal case just to sell off and make a buck.

Obviously this sudda bugger is not interested about the subscribers. He wants to make some quick money and get out.

The story is that the sudda has sold or have agreed to sell to an Indian company called United Telecoms Limited (UTL).

But I hear the legal cases are still not over and TRC is still on their back to take some frequencies back. Problem for TRC is that the sudda bugger has got a restraining order agaisnt TRC from removing the frequenices. But it is temporary. Soon the frequencies will go.

But they are not SLT's frequencies. They do not belong to SLT. Currently its Multivision frequencies and once TRC takes it back, it has the authority to give to anybody who wants to do data services, wimax or whatever wireless broadband technology.

anyway, the bottomline is Comet is still having so much of problems. currently some drug dealer back in the days named Gerry Junkeer is running the show, trying to sell the name of some influential relative to stop the frequencies been taken back.

The Indian guy who has bought or going to buy, will have the time of his life!

In this backdrop, we subscribers have to decide whether to wait and see or switch to a steady service get some better service and more than 18 channels.
