Highly unlikely to meet TRC deadline

According to the way things are progressing now it is highly unlikely that Comet Cable will be able to convert their broadcasting systems to Digital before the deadline lapses on June 2007. If they are unable to carry out the conversion it is highly likely that they will be unable to continue broadcasting after June.

Comet has been planning their digital crossover for a period of several years and due to their inability to carry out plans it will be very sad if it is the subscriber who will be affected by it.

It is still not too late for Comet but they are not taking any positive steps to convert into digital. For Comet to survive in the market and take themselves higher than the existing operators LBN and Dialog TV will take nothing short of a miracle. Dialog TV introducing corporate packages will only make things more difficult.

Their woes are even made worse due to the problems that they have with the Southern Development Authority which is preventing Comet Cable shares being sold to another party.

At present Comet Cable subscribers are in a dilemma regarding the status of their connections since they may not continue to get the service from the company that they have subscribed to. Many subscribers are contemplating a move to either LBN or Dialog TV.

It is high time for the pioneer pay television provider to wake up and take some positive steps to make sure that subscribers continue to get the service. It is not only enough to continue to provide the service but they should also improve their service and attract more subscribers otherwise the inevitable will happen sooner or later. At the moment it looks like it will happen sooner.

I think the time is right for Comet to advice it's customers about their future plans rather than keeping us in the dark.
Are they going digital before TRC deadline or are they just waiting for their licence to be get cancelled??

We sincerely request Comet to announce their plans now it self.
We have been loyal to comet for the past few years & we deserve the right to know abt the future plan.

Otherwise we will have to get a Dialog sat connection since they will be offering some promotions during the next few weeks.

is comet waiting to get license cancelled to avoid claims by customers on the contract.

I guess its a question of when rather than what of the inevitable closure of comet as subcribers are already switching to options.

maybe they just want that to avoid claims by customers .

Guys,

You know why comet waited so looooong for Digital?
Because they never had finances.

They have run out of analog receiver equipment and now cannot sell new connections.

Comet has no chance because they will never have the finances to upgrade to Digital.

Sorry, friends, Comet is now planning ways to avoid the customer problems after closing down. They will wait for th elicense to end and tell some lies to avoid having to refund or anyhting (I think their policy includes refunds, unlike Dialog's and LBN's).

At least if Comet was under foreign management maybe we would have better chance.

I think we should go for alternatives like Dialog TV and LBN. Dialog TV has 70% of Comet's channels and twice their total. Only Star package, Ten Sports and Hallmark channel are not there. They are likely to appear soon.

Lets not wait till Comet upsets us. Lets make our decision NOW. Don't be like Comet's management which cannot do things properly.

I just switched left comet cable after 4 years with them. They are undoubtedly have the crappiest service for an overpriced cable TV.

I have invested about Rs.20,000 for comet. Is there any chance that i can have a refund?
(at least half of the money).
They can take back the decoder, grill & the poles.

i know what there plan.. THEY DON'T HAVE ONE. call customer care and ask. 2 customer care agents will tell 2 deferent story. one guy said with in this year. now its just waiting game. will they go for digital?? will they lie down and play dead??

I have better idea dialogtv exchange the connection with comet customers. you will have better customer base and we will have better service.

From last evening comet is showing NDTV again. What's wrong with them?? How many times we have to say that NDTV sucks.

Is there a chance that Dialog TV can reduce the connection fee for comet customers??

I have had enough of comet>.

guys dialog is offering corporate packages at 11500. so get in touch with a pal working in the corporate sector which has been offered and get yourself the offer.

there might be promotions too as cricket world cup will be shown on SETmax channel and dialog TV is the only cable operator at the moment in Sri Lanka having this channel.

well bunch of idiots in the management in there. don't have clue what they doing.

Anonymous said...

they have taken away AL Jazeera and NDTV is back.We can enjoy watching the floods in new delhi and a issue in lok sabha etc.,.,

I guess lots of viewer comments have come in favour of NDTV

this is crap..

dialog TV has secured exclusive rights for SET and SETMAX channels for ICC cricket world cup.

boy dialog TV customers are getting a good deal and good service. what the hell is comet doing??

Anonymous said...

i bet mr.schobi going to watch the worlcup from dialog tv :D

Anonymous said...

Well Mr. Schobi is probably not interested in cricket. Or TV for that matter. Else he would have felt for us by now.

Refund are OUT OF THE QUESTION. Dont even bother asking. Comet will never be able to refund millions to customers like that.

Also dont expet Dialog to trade your Comet equipment like that. Why? Because Comet stuff is useless ----. They will never be able to resell that junk. Not the BBQ grill especially.

Guys, most of you bought Comet bacuase you had plenty of money to. Comet was never an option for the normal people. So money shouldnt be a problem for you. Dialog TV is anyway cheaper and LBN even cheaper.

LBN Available whole island ???

Anonymous said...

Forget the deadline now can enjoy Sri Lanka Vs. India 3rd ODI on Channel 12

Anonymous said...

LBN is only available in a few areas of Colombo. They are a real cable network.

Live out of Colombo? You'll have to go for Dialog TV.

there's a guy who's selling his Comet connection... see http://classified.wow.lk/detail.php?siteid=11114

Is it worth for 8K......

Anonymous said...

not worth as equipment is crap and for sure deadline not been met been sure trouble from June. unless you want to spend 8K for few months of enjoying 18 channels and having a migraine thereafter.

why do you want to go for a set menu when a whole buffet is spread right in front of you. LBN/Dialog TV and soon Telecom.
