The above is true according to the last piece of information received and maybe Cinemax has returned but we are unable to confirm it. This is no doubt leaving Comet Cable subscribers frustrated. We are not in anyway implying that the other operators in Sri Lanka are 100% perfect since it is not true, but Comet seems to be on the wrong side many times now and are also not communicating with their subscribers which makes matters worse.
All what we can tell to anyone planning to buy Comet Cable is to avoid doing so since things are very shaky over there. Channels disappear mysteriously and reappear as mysteriously as they disappeared.
It is sad though that the pioneer pay television broadcaster in Sri Lanka may be no more in the near future. Hopefully some big newspaper can pick up on this story and lay the facts bare for all to read.

NHK is also out from COMET. Now it is Aljezera. They are replacing all with FTA channels but charges us. Only the star package is there. For how long????

I received the Invoice today for the month of Feb 2008. Like last month, they have reduced the fee only for the Sports Channels. No deductions have been made for the non-telecasting of HBO & Cinemax.
I have not decided yet as to whether or not I am going to make the payment. We cannot make any inquiries
either from CC since (as ai stated above)the fcuking 'assholes' are not answering the phone.
What about you guys ? Are you planning to pay for Feb 2008 ?
as i heard HBO or any other channels wont be coming on air this month. management issue. looks like some one girl friend getting big gifts from future investment money. :D
kayhaytha: i say go there blame them not to give movie channels. and ask for reduction. and hang in there till some other cable TV option come. i will do the same.

In Sri Lanka there is no compitition on pay tv. Only DTV is there for the whole island. IPTV is comming for the last 1 year. LBN is only in Colombo, Comet is dead and gone. So what is there???

I was talking about Colombo pay tv market(LBN,Dialog,Comet-may die& indian providers)
pool of people who can go for pay tv is small(and will grow when the cost comes down or when people get rich LOL!)
Cost of pay tv coming down is unlikely without competition. Even the Indian providers are too expensive over here. Only hope will be SLT IPTV but the launch is delaying.
IPTV meant to launch on February 2008. will see how it going to be. hope it will be reasonable and can reach by every one. these privet companies are blood sucking leaches. they will suck every single cents from you. worst not even providing a good service. they think they give some thing extraordinary and customers has to bow down and take all the crap they has to give. some time back internet also same stage. it was luxury to have more then service. let hope things will change.
there are plenty of sub agents give better deals then main players. 50 channels for 500/= and area to area list of channels deferent. so look like they understand the market better then these leaches.

Only other option is cardsharing. You need ADSL connection.

i am nto sure where you live. and these sub agents give this connections through coax cable. i have seen them on kotehena, mattak kuliya, wattala, maradan. something similer to LBN . but these guys are analog no topbox . just coax cable fix to ur TV set and tune the channels from ur tele. good thing you can dived this cable to number of TVs (you dont have to pay additional)and you can watch multiple channels from each TV. qultiy is not superb but for 500/= its dam worth.

Regarding cardsharing I have heard about it for sometime but did not have it. With COMET going down I am planning to go for it. Please check this forum http://satlanka.21.forumer.com/index.php under hardware software section. You will get and idea.
its look to technical.. and no one has given a real good explanations how.. where .. buy it or get details.. its good to have as a hobby.. not going home and put ur tv and watch ur faourit channel line up.

Cardsharing is illegal as you make it to be. You can use cardsharing in a legal manner as well. If paying for Comet Cable is an illegal activity since they broadcast without paying the channel owners. They lie to their customers and mislead them. Spread false information saying that third parties dealing with them are cheating them, where as they are the people who are the cheats [TV guide distribution]. Supporting and paying for illegal companies is an illegal activity.

Yes, I just saw it on the screen. Looks like we will have to bid goodbye to the Star Channels by the end of Jan 2008.
I think I will hold back my payment for Feb 2008 until we have a clear idea as to what kind of crap Comet will be dishing out next month.
