On the same basis of the interviews that we carried out with LBN and Dialog TV we sent an email to Comet Cable requesting to reply to a couple of questions that we raised with them. The email was sent on Wednesday 28th February and on a subsequent reminder on 5th March we received a reply from Mr. Harold on 7th March saying that the questions have been passed on to the relevant authorities for clarifications and as soon as the reply is received we will get the answers for our questions. We hope that we receive the reply soon since it is now over one week since we submitted these questions.
Given below are the questions that we forwarded to Comet Cable.
1) On Dec 15th 2006 the SDA published a notice citing non payment of dues by Comet Cable. They also said that they will not allow the transfer of Comet Cable shares and also withdraw the license if the outstanding is not settled. Has this matter been settled.
2) On June 1st 2007 the TRC wants some of the frequencies allocated to Comet to be released. What is the status of this.
We believe that the TRC wants the frequencies released to implement Wimax services in colombo and the suburbs. Has Comet been allocated alternative frequencies?
3) Sir, were there plans to start a satellite DTH service in partnership with Srilakvahini whose holding company is Futuresat or any other company?
Comet has been promising to go digital for the last few years and every year in the beginning they say that it will take place at the middle of the year and then change that to the end of the year when the middle of the year comes.
In the new look website the digitisation plans have not even been mentioned (this was available for some time in the old website).
4) Does this mean that the plans have been dropped?
If not then when is Comet definitely going digital. An exact time period is
appreciated?
Customers are in doubt whether services will continue or not after June due to the TRC deadline and we hear that many have moved over to competitors. We have noticed that overselves since many houses that we have seen which were having Comet antenna's have now got other connections.
5) Some customers are complaining of a drop in signal quality even without obstructions coming up. Has Comet reduced it's broadcasting power? We wish to state that we are unable to verify this claim that has been made.
6) What assurance can you give to your customers regarding the future of Comet or do they have to start looking for an alternative?
7) Will Comet be broadcasting the ICC World Cup Live? Dialog TV is said to have obtained exclusive rights for this event on the pay television platform.

You owe that much at least to your subscribers who have chosen to remain with you (at least for the moment)despite attractive offers from DTV, LBN and DishTV !! What idiot wants to buy Comet at this time? Anyway, DTV clarity will be addressed to soon and that is why they are delaying 3rd transponder.
Anon, analog is outdated. Why else would our free to air channels use it? Comet too is therefore outdated. I'm giving up my connection.
You all cursing Dialog is not going to help. They are actually doing a good job of keeping customers informed in some way. They provide the DTV blog and DTV subscribers unite with latest information. Comet does not do anything like that.
Picture clarity is not the biggest thing. I'll wait for Star on DTV. I will watch the world cup. Like on blogger said in the DTV blog, Dialog would have to pay extra to share the feed, and in turn Comet would have to pay Dialog. How ever could they afford that much.
Comet sucks. I've lost trust in them. DTV and LBN are the best! Hang on with Comet if you want to support the Indian team on Doordarshan (only one or two matches are against Sri Lanka).

I doubt that anyone sain will buy you connection, Krish. Best thing to do is get it disconnected and dump the antenna and everything in front of the Comet Cable offices. They will clear it up.

CELLTEL / TIGO call center workers listening to phone calls through their network
I am Dumith Rathnayake and I am sending this letter so that you know the dangers of using the Celltel / TIGO network.
My girlfriend is a Celltel subscriber. Last year from mid August onwards I got to know that Celltel call center workers were illegally listening to my phone calls but I dismissed the matter because I did not believe it could really happen until a friend of mine recounted every word I spoke with my girlfriend once from what he heard through a recorded clip by one such worker. Further, these call center workers have being accessing incoming call logs of Celltel (TIGO) subscribers and distributing those numbers to their friends.
I directly complained to Celltel in writing and they called me and confirmed that they would look into the matter and hold an investigation. After seven days, a lady named Vindya, the Customer Care Manager of TIGO sent me a letter saying that they would not proceed with the case because the owner of the sim did not make a complaint. I pointed out that the calls were originated by me and I also am equally affected by the actions of the individual which Celltel must bear responsibility to.
I also found out that this call center worker has also illegally got the incoming lists of many other Celltel (TIGO) numbers, especially of girls and giving them out to his friends. Also he has obtained messages sent to Celltel numbers, listened incoming and outgoing calls to and from Celltel numbers misusing the power and accessibility he has as a call center worker.
I was using a Mobitel phone to dial the Celltel number and they are telling me to complain about the listening of the calls to Mobitel, which is a total idiotic suggestion as this is the work of a Celltel worker.
It is clear that Celltel (TIGO) has not any interest in protecting the privacy and the rights of those who are using their network but only of protecting their errant employees. If they were at least a bit genuine in helping those affected in this case & saving their name they would hold an inquiry and an investigation as such employees only degrade the quality of a company.
I would like to warn you again before you make a call from or to a Celltel (TIGO) number ( numbers starting with 072* *** *** ) as your call may no longer be private and most probably be listened to by a jobless call center worker at TIGO. If the privacy of a call is not anymore, what is the point of mobile phones and communication at all?
Please pass on this e-mail to your friends and let them know of the conduct of TIGO (Celltel) and their call center workers, because we should never let anyone violate our right of freedom and privacy.

I checked with comet and they confirmed they are showing the ICC worldcup via DD feed.This is not the delayed transmission same like sony setmax.I feel sorry for DTV customers.MTV channel 12 will be switched to DD.Thats really good cos I heard DTV is taking off VH1.This shows how dumb they are.Anyway we do not hv to worry even on 1st of June comet will be alive and kicking

I am a comet subscriber and i dont beleive they are going to telecast the DD feed and even then only a selected number of matches(Mainly Indian) will be broadcasted by them.
Anyhow if they do,They are going to be in deep shit and that is a fact as all precautions are taken by DTV to safeguard their interest.

The CID will be watching the commet telecast during the world cup on a complaint by SONY channel India,that they are using the DD signal without any authority and violation of international law.
well, 1st of all, if your a comet customer who is about to get dtv, you are in for a pleasant suprise. the channels are not as clear as comet. there is a lot of pixellation. (meaning "kotu kotu" in sinhala)
so u myt want to check out the quality first before making a decision.
even if comet does give a dd feed, it'll be all indian matches, so all can say "jalo india" and even that, chances are that nimbus will put an upset for dd. (although difficult). and even if they do, chances are dtv will press charges, and frankly, another charge sheet is the last thing comet needs right now. and dd will also have adds, like hell.
as for the poster at 9.21pm march 12th. whats the scene with pas 12??
From yesterday, Comet Cable appears to have lost Discovery and Animal Planet. BBC was also off the air for a short while but it was restored.

Comet showed the WI & PAK match yersterday on channel 14 (VH1) (Feed from DD national) From the portion of the match i viewed I guess the commentry is 15 overs english 7 overs hindi interchanging.
At the innings break Comet switched back to VH1 but switched back to DD national once the Pak inings started although 3 balls were missed from the first over.
So good deal for comet customers although i am not sure that DD national will show all the matches.
ya i called them regarding the hindi commentary they said they are working on it.. it is kind of pants to watch the match without English commentary.
So comet replaced VH1 with the cricket feed ? and there was so much of fuss made when DTV did the same ..
yep .. that what they said don't speak soon..
