We are getting unconfirmed reports that Comet Cable actually started telecasting the match between Sri Lanka and Bermuda only to abruptly stop it later on. The live telecast is supposed to have been broadcast using a SET Max feed obtained from Indian DTH service Tata SKY. According to reports a crawler on the screen inserted by Tata SKY appeared warning against unauthorized rebroadcasting of the feed which was apparently censored by Comet Cable sometime later. Several customers had called Comet Cable regarding the censorship and after about an hour later the live telecast was stopped and VH1 was back on instead of the match.
We hope Comet will not resort to practices such as illegal rebroadcasting but will legally try to obtain rights and telecast the matches live. Illegal broadcasting will only result in Comet Cable falling into a further financial mess with all the legal action that can be brought against them in addition to the unstable financial situation of the company.
It should be noted that not only is the live telecast illegal but Comet is also possessing an illegal Tata SKY connection.

By the why, have ul have heard of a DTH called EUROSTAR ? Iv seen the dish on lots of homes.
EUROSTAR IS NOT a DTH service it is just an antenna receiving KU Band signals. It can be used to receive FTA KU Band channels such as those from DD Direct.

I think we should be proud that COmet did a great job yday.We should understand that with limited resources they are trying their best to show the WC to their loyal customers.This is a great move from them.We as Sri Lankans should be proud.

I agree that all should have an opportunity to watch the World Cup. So then watch it on Channel Eye free and legal.
Comet doing such a thing, even for the sake of their customers, is an extremely low down thing. The least they could do is get permission from DTV. Even government people don't so openly do low down things like that.
If yu want the World Cup, watch it on Channel Eye. If Comet does silly things, June 2006 may come a little earlier than expected.
Cmon Comet, you shouldi mprove your service, but not by doing dirty things! Do something rights and get your customers back. For a start, could Comet inform us about June 2006 problem?

well, we comet customers didnt expect the match on comet. and nor did we ask them to broadcast it, as we all knew we would have to watch it on channel eye. leave piracy apart, why did they even try to show the match. whether through tata sky or dishtv or dtv itself? and that too only half way.
im sure most loyal customers would be ashamed at the way their cable operator is behaving. coz not like dtv, the comet subscribers were the first to get cable and this includes diplomats, business elite etc,. and no doubt, they still have their comet connections. im sure they wouldnt want their cable operator to behave that way.
and even illegaly, if their showing something to their customers, they must either show it properly, or not show at all. the match stopped after a few overs, and half the time the screen was censored. i admit, there must be competition between providers, but there is a way to compete. all i can see is that comet is asking for trouble, trying to get into a legal battle and make that the reason for shutting down.
if any authority at comet reads this will they please answer the questions that have been raised by tv and radio sri lanka...
and i suppose if comet had exclusive rights to set max, and dtv pirated setmax thru tata sky these idiots would have kept quiet..

well, subscribers could stop payment until an assuarance is given, but on the other hand, if they disconnect coz we dont pay, then they'll have lesser customers to answer to. and we might not have a say. still, its a good idea. but we could be playing into their hanbs.
I am yet of the view that we should try to drum up some kind of publicity regarding the June 01 deadline.

Maybe as a start as many of us as possible should send letters to major newspapers for publication in their 'Letters to the Editor' sections regarding this issue. We should cover English, Sinhala & Tamil newspapers.
I believe many newspapers now accept emailed letters. We can title the letter "What's happening at Multivision ?"
