Star Movies, Star Plus off air?

From yesterday we are receiving news reports that the Star TV channels are not operational on Comet Cable anymore. It seems that initially Star Movies, Star World and Star Plus were taken off air but then Star World returned but Star Movies and Star Plus did not return.

According to unconfirmed information seems that due to non payment of dues the channels have been disconnected and it seems that Star World is being telecast via a Tata SKY connection that is owned by Comet Cable. Customer Service says that due to a technical problem the channels Star Movies and Star Plus have been taken off air.

We are unable to ascertain the true cause and the above is from unconfirmed sources. We hope that our fellow bloggers will be able to update us via comments on the true cause of the channels being taken off air.

very funny that all star channel give technical problem same day. At the airport today I saw 2 peoples from star coming to colombo. Must have come to chek this starworld problem.

If comet cable is re broadcasting tatasky starwolrd signal why cant they do the star plus??
This is a payment issue and we as subscribers should not pay this months rental or the management should tell us to pay only for the channels they are shwing. Why should we pay 1600 if they are not showing all 18 channels

Anonymous said...

agreed with the above comment. We should not pay for any channel hereafter until they confrim the real status

Guys i was a comet user from their inception but recently moved to DTV
since i got a corporate connection for 8900/-. I still have my comet connection which i hope to dispose of next month

Belive me when i say it if you are only a comet subscriber you will be overwhelmed once you made the move and seen the picture quality

I am not here to promote DTV but just giving my opnion the only minuses i can see is that they have got star yet and signal fade during rain but i havent experinced it yet even during yersterdays heavy wind and rain

This is my frank opinion if you want value for money i think its better to go for LBN they give almost all the channels of DTV and HBO family. The only notable exception is ABC which will have the Tri Nations RUgby. but LBN is not available in my area hence i had no alternative but to go to DTV

I wish all the comet subscribers well and hope the new owners try to do something. I only hope that the buyer is not an individual who bought the company without knowing about all the issues connected with comet ownership ,broadcast frequency....etc as everybody will up the shit creek if that happens

Ignore this new Alf profile and lets concentrate on getting our 'test' channels back.

This DishTV promoter should notice that NO WHERE in this blog we have mentioned a worthy competitor to DTV even if we hv some issues with them. DishTV is NOT an alternative to DTV and I think this is old hat we hv discussed and discarded a long time back.

So that's not a fact. The fact is we must continue to wait till we get official confirmation from DTV as to how they are going to assign these channels to packages.

My humble appeal to all (and inform your offline friends too) is NOT to change or upgrade your packages at this juncture just to watch new channels for a handful of days. If you do - you are loosing to a marketing tactic. Wait till the launch date and make up your mind. Also hang on to see how DTV combines the existing two package structures. IMO, there is NO WAY that they can take off existing channels from any subscriber. So new DTV subscribers are set to benefit as they will get to see more channels (ESPN, POGO on 900 package).

Also, thanks Admin about the news on Subscribers Unite.

This is the DTV blog.We all believe DTV is the Best. That's why we pay for that.

Not others. This is the DTV blog.We all believe DTV is the Best. That's why we pay for that.

Our intention is to rise up DTV not others. We don't want crap Hindi channels with adds anymore. Then, we don't want Dish TV.We're much satisfied with DTV compare to Dish. This is a struggle in the HOUSE to build up comfortably. Not to live in a neighborer's house when angry with own home.

@ HBO Hits,

I think HBO Hits & Family must add to the subscribers who pay below 900 rupees. Because all the Films that has been shown, did broadcast some tomes back on HBO , Signature. ( See the schedule of them )

@ ABC,

Also since ABC is a FTA channel it must come to the lowest Package.
If, Not,
DTV's very unfair , not even for whom that bought DTV, For the future buyers .

@ Test,
There isn't any software problem regarding the test channels. If anyone Upgrade , How it works in few hours to get the Test channels back. It's marketing,
The Sri lanka's Most successful traders TACTIC.

@ AMD,

( Repeat from a past post )

really really there was a IRD Upgrade.
If any one say NO,
How could this happened ?

*After IRD Upgrade,

1.Time GMT is +0530h. Before +0600h ,

2.Password was 9949, Now 1234.

3.If we use Antenna in to give signal to the TV set, It'll get Black & White Colors. Before the IRD Upgrade there were Multy colors.

Then, there is something wrong with Upgrade., Because anyone can't see the channels in COLORS using antenna position. But Can , using AV inputs .

Alf,

Don't remind us about that name Hulugalla. He is the one who deprived many of us to suffer without the facility for 6 mths. Hulugalla's idea was to entice us to abandon CBN Sat & join his facility. Fortunately, many of us didn't fall in to his trap. Neither do we wish to waste our time about that guy.

Our main idea is to get a good & reasonable deal from DTV. Many of us who have Dialog Mobile phones would know that if you keep silent with Dialog they will think that they can have their way. Therefore we need to voice our protests. That's all.

As suggested by Ricky lets wait until 30th.

BTW my attempts to contact Kasun to get his response what I gathered last night, have failed so far. In one instance when asked for Kasun, I overheard some guys at DTV talking in Tamil(I can understand Tamil to a fair extent) that its a another complain & to transfer my call to C/Care.

DialogTV against DishTV and Tata Sky

+ Non-Indian channel feeds of AXN, HBO, Zone Reality and STAR (as said by Riky) which have less ads and better programming (and do not get banned by the government all the time)

+ No problems and disagreements with any content providers, and therefore provides everything at equal quality.

Zee channels are owned by the same as DishTv. Therefore Tata Sky (owned partly by STAR) gets a low quality feed of Zee channels, and only a few of them.
Similarily, until recently DishTV did not get the STAR channel. Even now they are in low quality on DishTV.

+ Better customer support, becuase DishTV (mostly) has awful customer support

+ Better contact with the customer through places like this blog. Tata and DishTV hardly notice the customers except for the money.

+ Radio channels at high quality.

- Less total channels

- No multiple audio feeds

- Channels all come from abroad, not local (excpept radio and free local channels of course). Therefore the price is higher. It can't be helped, but DTV should reduce it as much as possible.

If you can try again to get to know what happened at that time ( about 2 days time )

Thanks very much for what you're doing in this blog.

Hi

its nice to be back after a few days.

Well there's been so much going on but i cant believe how Dtv can discriminate its customers considering this issue of 1,375/- and 1,400/-. I being an old CBN Sat customer feels highly let down and wonder if this is the price for our loyalty.

To all this DishTv promoters on here: this is a blog spot to discuss issues of Dtv. We dont care if you receive 300 channels for 900/- we are happy with what we have as we are confident that Dtv's service provider has the technology to provide us better in future.

So just leave it be.

Hi Priyantha,

You are absolutely correct about the comment made about ALF.

There is no room for anybody here to promote other products. This is only for DTV bloggers to discuss their issus, concerns, problems or whatever it is.

If anybody wants to promote any other cable tv he should find some other place for that.

Thanks for your comments !

I’m they are having the problem with their end. Finally cs guy told me that he will inform it to the relevant dept. About 5 mins after ending the call I got the sound on right channel. If you want newchannels and which are of importance and quality of programming is high you will have to pay that extra 25/- and in future if Dtv increases it to even 2,500/- you will still have to pay it if you want such channels. After all they are the service provier,,,we are only bloggers who are their customers. (some are not ..lol)

Lets hope for the best!

STAR World
STAR Plus
STAR Gold
STAR Vijay
Neo Sports
Neo Sports Plus
TEN Sports
HBO Family

Returning Television Channel
These channels were at least once available previously on Dialog TV. They are confirmed to be relaunched with the third transponder.

Fashion TV
SET
Sony SAB

[edit] Infrastructure
Dialog TV broadcasts using the DVB-S System through the IS12 (Formally Known as PAS12) Satellite positioned at 45° East. KuBand Signals are received using a 60 cm diameter Aluminum Mini-Dish and a Sharp LNB. The LNB is connected to a COSHIP CDVB5110D SetTop Box. Irdeto 2 technology is used to unlock the encrypted signal. The SetTop Box is also programmed to block Free-to-Air satellite channels, as well as preventing manual changes to transponder details (in June 2007 update). Software updates are downloaded through the satellite network.

Competition and Coverage
Dialog TV reportedly has the highest number of cable TV subscribers in Sri Lanka. Its main competition is currently Lanka Broadband Networks (LBN), providing cable based television services both in analog and DVB-C in a few areas of Colombo. LBN has some reliability problems due to frequent damage to cables and power failures to its amplifiers although being a cable based 'cable' network it has better quality than DTV.

Competition may soon come from other expected DTH services, although none have been confirmed yet.

Confirmed competition in the future is SLT IPTV, although the service is still awaiting their broadcasting license to set up the system.

Dialog TV has coverage over the entire of Sri Lanka and up to Nepal and neighboring countries through the IS12 satellite.

It is unlikely that DTV will launch its services in India which has a potentially huge audience is currently well served by DishTV India and TataSky. These providers offer almost all the channels offered by DTV plus more channels to suit the various regions of India.

[edit] Development and Expansion
Dialog TV expresses its hopes to soon expand their digital network to other neighboring countries. It is said that there are already Dialog TV customers in Maldives.

Dialog TV signed an agreement with ESPN and Star Sports on 7 March 2006, and launched the channels on 24 March 2006. The Zee package (Zee TV, Zee Cafe, Zee Cinema, Zee Trendz, Zee Sports, Zee Muzic, Zee Studio) was launched in January. Al Jazeera English was launched on 19th April 2007, replacing the SET channel.

Dialog TV's third transponder was launched in late April 2007. A software and NIT upgrade was tested on 8th June to make new facilities available for subscribers. These include a 7-day Electronic Programming Guide. The third transponder is now available on Dialog TV for all subscribers, and the new channels on the transponder are expected to be launched very soon.

[edit] High Defenition Tests
Dialog TV is believed to be carrying out private test transmissions of High Definition broadcasting.

It is rumored that Dialog TV is using the Discovery HD Channels, available on the same satellite as Dialog TV, for testing purposes.

[edit] Closure of Dialog TV (then CBNsat) and halt of services for 6 months
On June 6th 2006, the Sri Lanka Police's Criminal Investigation Department raided the CBNsat broadcast premises and ordered to shut down the service. CBNsat was accused of not possessing the correct DTH broadcasting license and broadcasting the NTT channel (of the LTTE) on their service. CBNsat was also blamed for broadcasting possibly illegal content on Fashion TV.

The Media Ministry took over the case when the CID dropped their charges in late 2006. It was not possible to show evidence of CBNsat broadcasting the NTT channel as it blocked Free To Air channels form the customer decoders and NTT was a Free To Air channel.

The Media Ministry could not prove any of the allegations and was finally forced to provide the necessary license to CBNsat. Meanwhile, CBNsat was financially crippled and was acquired by Dialog Telekom in December 2006. The service was finally relaunched in February 2007.

As a result of the closure, a few subscribers gathered together to form CBNsat Subscribers Unite. The subscribers worked hard to bring CBNsat out of trouble during the closure, and ultimately caused the government to give up their vested interests.

[edit] Current status
Dialog TV is now relaunched together with most of their original package. zOOm, Raj TV package and the Goal TV package have been dropped from the lineup due to low viewership. The Zee package (consisting of 7 channels) was added to lineup to replace those channels, and also in gratitude for the support of its many loyal customers.

The subscriber group still exists, renamed as Dialog TV Subscribers Unite, in order to sort out customer problems directly with the Dialog TV management.

Hi guys,

You may have seen that SLT is going to provide IPTV. Since I did not have any idea what IPTV I made some seraches and found some articles.

If you are interested pl read. Otherwisie forget about it.

I think we have to konw what is going to happen in the Cable TV industry to respond properly to DTV markting strategies.

IPTV
(Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet. In order to receive and decode the images in realtime, the user requires either an IPTV set-top box or a computer and software-based media player.

IPTV enables a data-voice-video "triple play" service to be based entirely on IP because Internet access, voice over IP (VoIP) and IPTV all use the same IP packet format. To compete with cable TV, the telephone companies have taken the lead with IPTV over DSL lines. Rather than tune into one of many video channels being transmitted simultaneously over cable TV, IPTV users request a particular channel, which is routed to the user like every resource on the Internet.

TV over the Internet

There are a multitude of IPTV stations that deliver their content only via the Internet. Although there are paid subscriptions to some services, most are free. In addition, many TV broadcasters send their video over the air and to the Internet simultaneously. See IP, streaming video, IP on Everything and triple play.

Overview
In the past, television was only distributed via cable, satellite, or terrestrial systems. Today - with the increase in Internet connection speeds, advances in technology, the increase of total number of people online, and the decrease in connection costs - it has become increasingly common to find traditional television content accessible freely and legally over the Internet. In addition to this, new Internet-only television content has appeared which is not distributed via cable, satellite, or terrestrial systems.

Internet TV can come in many forms. For instance, it can

be watched on a regular TV (via a Set-top box), or on a computer, or on a portable device (such as a mobile phone)
show a channel 'live' (like regular TV), or allow the viewer to select a show to watch on demand ("Video-on-Demand")
involve any budget - from home camcorder productions to expensive professional productions
be protected from copying, or easily duplicated as a perfect copy
be free or paid for - and may be supported by advertisements
be an interactive or passive medium
One of the barriers to wider adoption of Internet television is streaming technology, which can be of poor quality and high cost to the providers. The BBC's Dirac project seeks to address this by creating a scalable, high-quality, free codec for streaming video content over the net.

As Internet television becomes more pervasive, efforts are being made by companies to develop the transmission of existing pay-TV channels to regular TV sets over the net, while retaining control over how the media is used. Such control is required in order to protect existing subscription and pay-per-view business models

Implementation
Internet Television services have at least two different models:

Fee based
This type of service is generally funded and supported by large telecom providers and follows the previous cable, satellite or terrestrial systems, based on a subscription fee, adding new features like high-definition TV, video on demand and digital video recording.

The usage of internet protocols to provide two-way communication will also open the way for interactivity with the TV program content, for example making it possible to choose between multiple camera angles, vote on an interactive TV show, or order a product sample.

Europe and Asia have been the leaders in implementing these Internet Television services for paying customers, which are expected to become mainstream in just a few years replacing traditional cable subscriptions. In the US the providers have not shown so much interest about this technology yet. Internet Television is a more interesting alternative to cable TV also in countries where there is a poor cable infrastructure, like India and China.

The software platform chosen by network operators to provide the most recent Internet television services has been Microsoft TV IPTV Edition, which works together with a set-top box.

These services are limited to the offer supplied by the provider meaning that you can only get on your TV set the channels and services you are paying for.

Free
Free Internet Television is available from the Web, and is accessible without the need for either a set-top-box, a specific carrier or an operator.

The greatest core theme of the free Internet Television model is that it is based on the same publishing model that exists on the Web: it allows access to an open platform, that anyone can access, use and build for, together with the development of open source software, open standards and formats.

Those that create valued and interesting video products have now the opportunity to distribute it directly to a large audience - something impossible with the previous television distributing models (closed software, closed hardware, closed network). The free model has been used around the globe by local and independent television channels aiming for niche target audiences, or to build a collaborative environment for media production, a platform for citizens' media.

Barriers to Internet TV
Some perspectives indicate there are several technological barriers to wider adoption of internet television, the reality is that it is easy to hook up your television to your computer. While some media player streams are less visually clear than others, some of the television coming across from stations rival the broadcasts from the cable box. All it takes is a wireless mouse and the right connections to the TV. Add a stereo or better sound system and the results are quite credible for television viewing. Sites like www.fantasy-tv.com outline the connection from the computer to the television in an easy to understand and visual format.

Some of the technological arguments to broad internet television acceptance are:

Lack of set top boxes - these need the latest compression technologies (MPEG-4's H.264/AVC codec; and VC-1). Decoding chips are still new and expensive.
Incompatible standards (different software and/or hardware are required to watch different providers)
Low bandwidth to the home - a standard definition digital signal requires a 2 Mbit/s connection. High definition requires 8 Mbit/s.
Restricted bandwidth in the internet backbone (this will be a problem if many people decide to adopt internet TV via unicast.)
Streaming technology - which can be of poor quality and high cost to the providers. Multicast and P2PTV are some of the suggested solutions.
Old media meeting new media - licensing regulations, existing deals, and uncertainty over payment, security, and advertising has led to only slow steps being taken hyhy by the companies which own the TV content.

Hi guys,

When you call DTV custeomer care after giving their bullshit answers for all the qustion we are raising, they asking are us a funny question.

That is " Is there any thing we can do for you sir "

I said there that there are so many things.

First allow all the customers to view test channels and allow them to create an opinion about whether they should upgrade their pkgs after June 30 to view premium channels.

Secondly send the programe guide in time

and thirdly not to discriminate customers

But I am of the view there is no point calling these customer care guys becos they are giving sterotype answers prepared by the management.

But at the same time it will also create some preassure on DTV to think twice about their policy as these Cus care guys may be giving some feed back on the calls received by them.

However I am with you. I wanted to upgrade my 850+ pkg to 1400+. But now that we have decided no to do so till 30th June, we all totgther will wait and see. Any action you are, taking I am with you.

@ Jesika & others,

I am of the opinion we should wait until the DTV make an official announcement & see how they are going to distribute the new channels among whatever pkg. Then sometime who knows even if DTV tries to ignore our request for fair play & try to distribute the channels among their new pkgs (1400, 900 etc) then who knows, there may be some of us who may decide that the channels offered on 900 pkg which may obviously include, are sufficient & then we can down grade from 1375 to 900. Then we can see who wins the race.

Therefore, lets wait until the official announcement with the distribution of channels. Otherwise next time,DTV will add a few more good channels with FTA & jack up by a further 500.

@hsjaya

Well done. Thks for the Camaraderie.

June 22, 2007 1:50 PM

soorapappa said...
I too got a response like that. Previously when I've called to reactivate, they said that all new channels can be watched only for 1400 new package.
@Jesika,
For me, I have 900 new package and can see hallmark, ABC, neo, neo+, set and set sab. But I don't have ESPN and POGO. So if you go for new 900, you'll loose ESPN and POGO. I recommend you to wait until 31st. Then probably we can see the full picture.
I've a bit concern about 500 pkg and AXN. As I remember one said DTV given a special offer(for connection) to some company/institute which don't have AXN for 500 pack. I don't know the truth about this. If someone know please comment. That's why I've asked from RIKY, whether they also going to shuffle existing channels or only new channel distribute to new packages. This I haven't got an answer.

Paying another 25/= more is nothing comparing to 1375/=. Though I got lucky enough to get activated new channels does not mean that it will last forever. We have to wait till 30th to see what are they up to. If they want us to upgrade to 1400/= in order to watch new channels, they should send us a written document as they sent saying that they have added new channels. They the same thing when they first introduce CLI. I had a 300 package and only SMS was available at that time. Once they introduce CLI I had to pay additional 50/= (now rental is 350/=) to activate CLI facility. Now CLI & SMS is free when u get a connection but still old customers they still pay additional 50/= as rental. Due to that reason I disconnected my old connection & bought a new one.

Don’t be surprised to see a new package above 1400/- sooner. This digital tech has very good individual profiling. That’s why so much confusion with the same package. Even if you have good patience you will end up loosing money by moving to high value package because no good channels will be available for 900/-.

The decision by DTV management, not to allow CBNSat package customers to view the new channels leaves a bad taste. It is very unfair to treat old customers (since July,2005) like us, asking us to switch packages. Hope DTV will remember that;

• It was the CBNSat customers that established a customer base of 25,000 for over one year before the events of 06-06-06
• Dialog had an ambition to start their own DTH service
• It was CBNSat that spent close to Rs. one Billion to establish a world class DTH studio
• Dialog paid only half that price to buy CBNSat in December, last year
• Now, Dialog has their own DTH thanks to the investment of CBNSat and CBNSat customer base
• I have personally promoted CBNSatand brought many pals to CBNSat
• It is the loyal customers that bring in more customers; not large billboard in every junction
• All CBN & DTV customers have paid extra monthly rentals whether they can see new channels or not
• Although the new connection is now, Rs. 12,500/=, prospective new customers will judge how DTV has treated loyal customers

Hope DTV will take this criticism in the right spirit, avoid discrimination, not have favourites and treat all customers fairly

We have enough of problems with DTV and we dont need an idiot like him here promoting his DISHES. Please take some sort of action to prevent him from creating unecessary problems here.

@FreeMan

Very well said. Hope Dialog as a respectable company takes note of the early customers who built the foundation of CBNSat(and now DTV). There is absolutely NO REASON for them to openly and bluntly be discriminating against the largest group of their customers. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe there are much much more CBNSat customers than new DTV customers helping DTV make all the profit. So why this step-child treatment? If it is a technical issue, I am sure it can be sorted out without asking people to change to Rs1400 package. Not everyone can or want to subscribe to the 1400 package. I for a fact dont care about HBO and other movie channels, but if they take away ESPN from my Old850 package, I will be really pissed. I dont mind paying 900 for the new package, BUT I WANT MY ESPN!!!!!

As for the the 1375/- package, they will have everything that 1400/- will have and it will be sorted out once the engineering team is back from singapore.

Hi Friends,

After several unsuccessful attempts, managed to contact Kasun. In fact he called me in response to my messages.

According to him the Top Management has decided that the old CBN premier customers should pay Rs.25 more & join their 1400 group with all new channels & 850 to pay additional Rs.50. For 900 pkg, there will be two categories A & B one for the old CBN 850 customers with ESPN but without any new channels & the other for new DTV customers with new channels listed here & without ESPN:-
NDTV, Hallmark, Star+, Star Movies, SRTV, ABC, Vijey, Neo Sports.

DTV will announce regarding these pkgs next week & will officially launch on 30th.

I told, the main question here is not whether customers are prepared to pay another Rs.25 or 50. But the manner in which DTV are trying to force it upon them. Explained that they should have allowed the Test Channels for everybody & put this across more diplomatically. Further, I said we consider it as a high handed act by DTV to prevent part of their customers to enjoy these Test Transmission without any notice. However, even if let's say I decide to down grade to 900 then I will enjoy ESPN but not new channels. They are real 'Shylocks'

As a last request, I told him at least its not too late for them put things right by activating Test Channels tonight, so that all customers can enjoy the Test Transmission over the week-end & throughout next week by which time they can decide.
Otherwise even if the customers agreed to upgrade at this moment , it will leave a bad taste & at the first opportunity when another reliable Service Provider, like SLT commence their IPTV, customers will drift. I already have ADSL & will definitely do that.

As a passing remark I said, I for one will never agree to their 'strong arm tactics' .

Official: Time to change the OLD pkgs to NEW pkg ppl. (Eg: 1375/= to 1400/= / 850/= to 900/=) main reason for this change is to minimize the minor billing Errors. Now onwards you can send your request through the nearest Dialog arcades & service centers or simply send a fax to DTV Billing 0114606099 with your Request letter & NIC copy. Within 24Hrs DTV ppl will do the need full.

Ok .. now all you fellas are falling like straws in a hurricane.

There are several bloggers here who are in fact DTV sales persons. some of them support us with good info - others just try to "strong arm" (as Laksiri put it) to changing packages.

In the end, one might change package or not. But the point is you are falling for the DTV trap whether you like it or not.

OTOH, 1400 (actually 1650) seems like nothing much for some ppl, right? Personally, it's peanuts compared to what I spend on DVD's for a month. But the fact of the matter is if we fall to DTV trap and voluntarily change packages they are getting away with a civil offense. (yes, a legal offense - just because we accept to be .. well not strong).

I can't ask anybody to wait till 6/30, even if it is just 7-8 days! I might also change packages when it comes to that. But I wont do it before they send a letter to me saying that your package is worthless.

And when I get it - I'll first send it to TRC (just for the heck of it) before picking up the phone to speak to some DTV moron and get him to change my lousy package.

Just my two cents guys .. and to the DTV sales promoters, who now seem to outnumber genuine bloggers.

@Cableguy: Thanks for your compliment.

Dialog CEO, Dr. Hans had a great vision: it was to allow people of all walks of life to have affordable mobile telephone access. As his vision was service-oriented, (rather than mere profit oriented), Dialog GSM became the no. 1 mobile service provider in Sri-Lanka.

Mr. Canagay too had a service oriented vision; to provide affordable DTH-TV through CBNSat and that’s why CBNSat became a force to be reckoned with. Only businesses that are service oriented can survive nowadays. It has to be a win–win situation; both the customer and the business has to win: not one side only.

Still there are more CBNSat customers than DTV customers. They all want a quality service for what they pay and don’t want step motherly treatment.

Last week, DTV decoder price was reduced from Rs. 17,900/= to 12,500/= as DTV couldn’t reach the expected customer base. If DTV wants to retain existing customers and attract new customers, it will have to treat customers fairly.

Hi Good Morning Friends,

It seems that no body is here yet. Doesnt matter I will give a start.

After following up all the comments and views by everybody yesterday, I would like to summarise the views as follows

500pkg - Old chanelles will remain. We are not sure what new channells will be given

850cbnPkg - This could be upgraded to 900pkg. We will have POGO, ESPN and few new channells. But not HBO, and Ten sports

900DTV - This will not have ESPN, POGO but will get few new Chanells most porbably without HBO and Ten sports.

1375 - This could be upgraded to 1400 and will get all channells. If not upgraded there will not be TEn sports, HBO hits and HBO Famiys.

This is my undersatanding.

Please correct If I am wrong.

My understanding was that we agreed yesterday to wait till June 30th and see channell allocation among packages and then take a decision to upgrade

Are we still with that agreement.
If there is no agreement can we come to a agreement what should be our course of action till June 30th

There is a billboard at the junction near the Technical College (on the way to Maradana) about the launch of a channel called "The Buddhist", soon on Dialog TV. This channel we believe will be launched along with the channels in the third transponder.

In other news that there is mixed information coming regarding the scrambling of channels on Dialog TV. We hope that whatever problems/decisions that resulted in the test channels being restricted for only a certain section of subscribers will be rectified soon and the channels are made available for everyone until testing is complete. If the channels are no longer testing as some other information suggests and have being packaged then an announcement should have been made that channels are not testing anymore then subscribers could have decided whether to upgrade or not. We hope that Dialog TV will make an announcement regarding this soon. Anyway since no announcement has been made yet, we can assume that the channels are still being tested. Subscribers who are desperate to watch the new channels should call (011) 4606000 and speak someone from senior management but others who can wait should could adopt a wait and see attitude until the official launch.

It seems that Dialog TV will have only three packages Rs 500, Rs 900 and Rs 1400 in the future and the older packages will be removed. This leaves a question whether older subscribers who are enjoying ESPN and POGO in the Rs 875/= package will continue to do so when they are upgraded to the Rs 900/= package. It will be very foolish if they remove these channels for the older subscribers and we do not believe that they will do this. We think that they will add ESPN and POGO to the Rs 900/= package thereby benefiting the newer Rs 900/= subscribers who are unable to view them now.

We once again stress that Dialog TV should not introduce any more packages higher that Rs 1400/= and should not raise package prices too. They should leave the package prices to the three mentioned above and use it to increase their sales. We however think that most of the new channels will be allocated to the Rs 1400/= package. In addition the upcoming religious channels such as "The Buddhist", "God TV" and fashion channel "Fashion TV" may be included to the lineup on request probably at an extra charge but it is not advisable for Dialog TV to categorize any channel as pay per view since the pay television market has not yet matured. The official launch date for the new channels is June 30th but this may change.

We like to stress that Subscribers Unite is not dead (like some have mentioned) and if you need to contact them please email dialogtv@yahoo.com, you can forward your complaints to them and they will forward it to Dialog TV.

aiyo!

the big comet buyout ended up in the loss of the top channels on comet.

beware! comet is broadcasting star world illegally off tata sky. they did the same for set max during the world cup. they got caught but were excused.

if the new owner is an indian, they wll be sure to bite his head off in courts over illagal relay of tata sky signals.

once again comet is in the dumps while dialog tv gets new channels for 100 rupees less than comet.

Despite assurances to the contrary, Comet has failed to restore Star Movies & Star World - giving us some Hindi crap (DD) instead.
Looks like it's decision time, guys.
If there is no clear and true statement from Comet regarding their current position and future plans before the end of this month, should we pay our next monthly subscription fee ?
DTV was offering connections @Rs 8,950 in the Talawatugoda area today, but the highest package (Rs1,400)does not include Star.

Anonymous said...

DTV is getting STAR channels this month. The same that were on Comet plus one more a Tamil channel.

And prices will not increase for this addition.

DTV also has Ten Sports, Hallmark, Neo Sports/Plus, HBO Hits, HBO Family and more in the lineup.

Official launch of the new channels will be around the end of this month and early next month.

Why is everyone discussing DIALOG TV issues on this page?? We should be discussing Comet Cable issues here!!!!???

Anonymous said...

Please define the 'issues' as per your opinion so that we could start the discussion.
I raised the question as to whether we should pay our next monthly fee in my previous post, but no one has responded as yet.

Regarding the Star channels, don't you think that the least Comet could do for it's customers is to put a 'crawler' across the screen informing us when we could expect to see Star again? After all they readily put a crawler to remind us about paying our fees before the end of each month!!
