Comet Cable the pioneer pay television company in Sri Lanka which is now in the hands of new owners who have not being identified as yet, has lost Star World on their lineup.
Initially a few days ago, Star Plus, Star Movies and Star World were taken off air and reports suggest that they were disconnected due to non payment. However on the same day Star World returned and rumors were that this channel was being telecast illegally via a Tata SKY connection that is owned by Comet Cable. However on Wednesday June 27th 2007 Star World was also taken off air and has not returned as yet. Many subscribers who had called the company had been told that Star World will return by last evening and according to reports reaching us, as of this moment the article is being posted Star World and the other two Star channels are not available.
We urge the new management of Comet Cable to carry out a press release regarding this situation and take immediate steps to bring relief to the subscribers of Comet Cable.

This sucks... I missed the season finale of Heroes!! When I called up the customer care they said that the so called 'management' were in negotiations with STAR about renewing the contract and transmissions would resume on Thursday(28th June). However as of today(29th June) we still have no STAR transmissions. My question is: Why the F*** cant you renew contracts before it friggin' expires??
When I called today the customer care guy said agreements are ready and on monday for SURE all start channels will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.,.,hmmmmmm

Finaly a scrawller.We should not pay this months bill.What you guys think?? are we gonna pay or not?
My advise is not to pay bills till they start up the channels we dont know by the way that things are going if the company will close or not

What if Comet has not actually been sold and James scobie has taken all the money and run to Australia.The Australian company Ultrapy has said that they have recived 1.2 million Aus $ for the sale but not from who they have recived it from so they are some what ok legally in Australia
This ties in with the new owners being reluctant to announce themselves and not paying of dues to Star TV,....etc
I hope what i said above proves to be false because otherwise we comet customers will be finished

I say as a sign of defiance all Comet Customers refrain from paying their bills until everything is back in order. Even then I'm quite sure that 50% of the customers are already considering DTV.
Admin, Sorry to say Comet cable is not the pioneer pay tv company in Sri Lanka. It was Channel 9 and they were giving the full star package from Hong Kong.
these guys suck. they even took off FTV. refer my comment ages ago. we are thinking of moving to dialog. since they are anyway lower we'd probably cover the cost in a year....comet cable sucks....no rugby even.....sucks big time....boycott boycott....

If there was anything positive in their so called management style, investors, or for that matter, wimax frequencies, star package re-introduction, comet digital plans etc, As any stable confident company would, they would inform valued customers and confidently issue some sort of statement. That shows positivity. BUT in this case, for the last year or so, c.c. always lies, all original staff have left, all senior management level staff have left, investors are pulling out, several court cases are pending, massive amounts are yet to be paid to stakeholders, no funds to cover the royalties, no funds to renew contracts with major content providers, no one responsible at the head of the company, broadcasting license is not held by comet but by the SDA, who are yet to get even a cent out of this unviable venture and who's dues from comet exceed over almost 100 million rupees,wimax frequencies to be taken over by TRC imminantly, no funds for expansion.
So whats positive about this picture?
You decide people! These guys are playing around like nobodys business. Get the hell outta there.
a mass exodus of customers migrating from comet to another preferred provider should teach these people a thing or two. what to do re the initial investment. Shit happens. If they dont care about their customers, why should customers care about them?

Comet is showing some crap song channel on channel 13 (formely Star World) now. Yersterday they showed the SA Vs India Match in Belfast (DD feed)
On channel 13 they are showoing STC(SOundtrack channel)Channel 2 same old HBO.When I called last week they said by monday(today) the agreements will be sorted and star world will be on air along with star movies.Any news guys??

The dtv connection is only 12,000 which is good. but they say if you have a gsm connection , all your outstandinds has to be settled. does this mean that after getting DTV if you fail to pay your phone bill they will disconnect the dtv donnection???? other wise why should they be bothererd about the phone bill when buying DTV???? sounds fishy??
Some one PLEASE tell me, suppose if you want to disconnect commet, will they come and remove my antenna or do i have to do it ourselves???????? i need this info badly.

after all they did charge us 17000/- to get the connection. will they refund that?
i am sure the metal pole can be sold for something. sometime back I had to buy a thinner metal pole than the one used by comet antenna from what i remeber it cost more than 1000/-
If you tell them to disconnect, they will do so..but will take everything back..
Best thing is to tell them to have the connection temporay disconnected until further notice and keep everything with you. This way you could avoid Comet resell your connection to someone else (this was the case earlier...but nobody will buy comet bcos of DTV now)
They can not come and forcibly take the stuff. we have paid 17,000/- as connection fees this includes the equipment why should we give it back for free
Dont return the equipment unless you get a refund. These comet fuckers have given us a raw deal already
as an expat I only watch Star world and star movies, I keep calling and they keep telling me 1 more hour,2 mours hours!. why can't they just tell the truth so I know they are not going to have star to I go elsewhere. it's cheating.

I think now comet is experiencing what LBN and CBNSAT customers experienced during the 6 months shutdown. So don't be upset for this short period of breakdown in services.
All comet cable users must be happy that other channels are shown but for CBNSAT and LBN its a complete dark
Comet is using an illegal TATASKY DTH service and re broadcasting Doordharshan and STC.We as comet customers should know the truth.They cant give us excuses.We should not pay our dues.Lets see.I think we should call a top manager there and ask him.

It seems that Comet can't get the Star package back. It is over 5 days that they couldn't do anything.
A tweety bird flying out of the disatrous Comet landing on Earth tells us that Broken pipes and used cables have been sold to bothalkarayas for a sum of Rs 300,000/-. Dont worry keep your hopes alive they want to settle Star package with this money. Good Luck with Comet...
Anyone contemplating jumping across to DTV right now should be a little cautious.
It looks like DTV is also having problems getting access to the Star channels.

As some suggested we can stay without paying from this month onwards till we get back all the channels. But will they disconnect the service from their end. If so do we have a legal right to demand the channels promised by them for our subscription.
My advice is dont pay your subscription and if you are in a LBN area get an LBN connection you will only miss Ten Sports otherwise wait till DTv introduces star and get a connection from the savings you make by not paying the comet subscription this may sound wrong but i think comet customers will understand
Please be aware of DTV too as they are having lot of problems at present with signal loss,pixelation ,...etc but i just cant see comet going anywhere but down

I would love get a DTV connection and stop facing the issues we are facing with Commet.
but what makes me stop is when looking at the DTV blog i see a lot of technical issues, attitude problems of the customer care staff, pixalisation , poor picture quality to name a few. so i am scared to switch to DTV also. In fact thats the reason i was asking someone to help me to get info about Dish TV. so can someone pleaseeeeeee help me.
