Discovery Channel, Animal Planet now off air

It seems that Discovery Channel and Animal Planet are now off air on Comet Cable. According to reports received it seems that Customer Service is saying that they are in process of negotiating with Discovery Communications and the problem will be solved in about two days.

We hope that Comet stream lines their renegotiating process so that the channels are not taken off air during the negotiations. It looks like Comet has not paid their dues to Discovery either which is why the channels have been taken off air otherwise there is no need to take the channels off air to negotiate. We hope this is solved soon.

Please update us on this latest development on Comet Cable.

Hi,

I was also with Comet for many years and disposed of it couple of months ago. Researched the options (LBN, DISH, DialogTV) for 2 months, and eventually settled on DialogTV.

I regret my decision to an extent now, wish I had the guts to go with Dish (as Telecave seems rather settled now). However, its all a matter of personal preference & individuality.

There's some interesting comments on the DialogTV thread "More rambling on the EPG". Please have a look at that, I'm a bit lazy to type a full answer : )

CN thanks for the info.

Could you do me one more favour. if possible provide me with some details of Dish TV. or if there is aplace i can get the information.

ill appreciate it.

I suggest you stay with Comet instead of going to Dish TV. Since I am sure u r used to watch AXN, Star Movies and HBO. What you get on Comet Cable, LBN and Dialog TV are East Asia Feeds.

However the Dish TV feed for those channels are the indian feeds. The movies are telecast after they are telecast in the East Asia feeds. I also think for Star Movies, HBO you get advertisements - a Dish TV subscriber will be able to confirm this. You do not get programmes such as LOST on AXN India.

Dish TV is not a risk worth taking. In India when they ban channels then the channels go off air on Dish too.

Any it is your choice. I would advice you to either move to LBN, Dialog TV or a multivision operated fixed line provider or stay with Comet.

Yes, dude has some good points.

It is no doubt value for money LBN is the best operator in the market today, sadly coverage is a limitation.

I primarily miss Star World, and Star Movies to an extent, and a pixelation-free picture using DialogTV. But what dude says above is true, Comet always maintained the East Asia feed. Logic dictates the Indian feed may not be upto par in comparison.

Also, I once posted somewhere asking of the adverts-in-middle-of-movies, and got an answer in Dish its at the end of the movies, but then again, never verified personally.

Failing LBN, its probably better to be with Comet for some time longer, see how DialogTV progresses. I also sometimes feel I jumped ship a tad bit early : )

Sad thing is if LBN seize this oppurtunity, they can really branch out. There are so many residential suburbs in Colombo without coverage, they could make a killing.

To answer your last question, I see DishTV ads in the Sunday Times Hitad mag every week. Its local agent is a place called Telecave in Col 06. The tel number I'm sure you can locate thru various means...

I was also a comet subscriber for some time and moved to DTV. what cn says is true LBN is best value for money only loss you will have is Ten sports. if you can hold on wait a bit there are lots of issues on DTV but if it gets Star world & Star movies you'll be able to live with the rain fade and pixelation issues.

As said by cn LBN could have made a killing if they expanded their area of coverage i personally would have gone for it instead of DTV

I have both dish and dtv and there are pluses and minuses on both,

1.Dish gives 170 odd channels for aroind inr 300/- (Around SLR - 800/-) Which i pay through the web and dtv charges 1610/- for the package and thats more than 50% higher.

2.Dtv has the asian feed of HBO(Signature, hitz, family),Cinemax,Axn and possibiliy star movies, wheres dish doesnt have signature, hitz, family and cinemax.

3.Dish has MGM,TCM,PIX and many other Tamil/Hindi movie channels but are riiden with advertisment wheres dtvs English language movies are commercial free.

4.dish doesnt have NEO,NEO+ and AL JAZEERA.

5.The quality of Dish is far better at present and they give true dvd quality picture and quality sound.

6.dish have many interactive services and you can even choose the camera angle of a cricket match.

Just seen an advert for Star Cricket, it seems that most games will be on this channel. Will it be available on comet???

good news friends.

Comet is getting star cricket, hbo hits and hbo family very soon. These may replace some existing shit channels.

i got the information from reliable sources

Anonymous said...

That must be the reason they took out Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. I think they should do something very soon before the customers go out.

Anonymous said...

@comet customer

Dont talk cock, when they dont have money to pay for discovery, animal planet scooby must be printing money to get family, hitz and star cricket.

After all star knows their track record.

be realistic guys.

@Admin,
Can you please find out about the new owners of COMET and what's their new plans. Things are not looking good at all.

Anonymous said...

Things are going to be ok for commet soon. I was to switch to DTV but going to stick to commet for a while as things could be ok with them soon. lets give one more chance to them. and the Final by the way.

I could only say when channels go off for any reason please replace with some other good channels.

I'm also previously a comet user and switched to DTV months back. I agree with cn and dude. If anyone is willing to change to another service, below are my priorities.

1. If your area has LBN, go for it (unfortunately I don't)
2. Wait for DTV to officially launch all their new channels including star and see how they allocate premium channels among them (because, at the moment, seems like almost all of them are added to 1600. They even hesitate to give ESPN and POGO to 900 pack while in CBNSat times, they've given those to 850 customers :-). Wait until their pay per view (so that you can see what you can get for your budget).
3. Dish TV (If you don't mind ads and spend much time to watch TV).

Good Luck !!!

There are some people born to spoil anything, one such person is RAHDUS. He doesn’t stop there, he wants to make every one anger with one another.

RAHDUS and LBN_ROCKS are one and the same person, check both ones profile (http://www.blogger.com/profile/09912944869749995220 )
From comet now he has moved into DTV with the name lbn_rocks.
Now he is fooling all DTV bloggers to get angered about LBN, that’s why he has posted about LBN on DTV blog. He is done the same on LBN as well as on comet blog some time back.
He may come back to Comet with any kind of name please be watchful.

Hey guys i have a question,

have you guys seen that in commet channels (most of it) has a black band like area on top and bottom of screen??? but suddenly full screen is visible and then again it becomes as i said a black band. its not there for HBO upto Cinemax ie channel 1 to 6, but from there onwards till Nat geo channel this black band is there, anyone knows the reason for this or was it there all the time and i never noticed it???''
