Comet Digital Officially announced on website

Comet Cable have officially announced the launch of Comet Digital on their website http://www.cometcable.com/ plus some of the things we can expect from "Comet Digital". Rumors indicate that the soft launch of Comet Digital will take place in September. Initially the existing subscribers are expected to be converted onto the digital platform before promoting it to attract new subscribers. According to sources Comet will actively promote Comet Digital to attract new subscribers from December onwards but if all goes well they may do this earlier.

Comet Digital is expected to contain the following features
  • 60 Channels.
  • Free Digital Decoder
  • Same Antenna
  • No Change in Subscription
  • Razor Sharp Pictures
  • Lifelike Surround Sounds
Comet is also planning to include an Electronic Programme Guide as well as increase the number of channels to above 60 as they roll out their digital system. What is interesting is that the present antenna will be retained but the decoder will be changed free of charge for existing subscribers. The subscription will also not be increased at the moment. Certain Comet Subscribers would certainly like to reduce the height of their existing antenna since it is very high, we hope that Comet will take steps to reduce the height of the existing antenna once the digital system is in place. However if line of sight is a must then this may not be possible. Comet should also take steps to increase the coverage of Comet to cover more regions in Sri Lanka.

The launch of Comet Digital will certainly add value and increase competition in the pay television industry which is at present limited to Dialog TV and LBN.

Please keep us updated on the latest on Comet Cable as the days progress.

BREAKING NEWS - I called CC few mnts ago,the guy said new digital decorders will be given from October and not September.Whats happening??Can anyone cal them again and check please

Anonymous said...

if what anon @ 4:27 is aying is true it confirms my suspicions that all this is a big farce. These guys cant keep discovery and animal planet on air. How the hell can they have the funds to get new digital decoders, make payments to new channel providers....etc. It simply dosent add up.

I am also sure that there are no new indian owners james scobie took the money and ran to australia.

I can not understand the way Comet is working. Put it up on the website their plans so that the present customers can hang on till it works. Right now I feel like going to DTV.

COmet are trying to keep their customers as long as they can 1800/- for 18 channels is a daylight robbery

Now dey saying mid october. Also If you check last months programme guide it says Ruhuna 2001 multivision is owned by Chalmway and Govmnt of Sri Lanka. If they have sold this company 3 months ago why are they still mentioning chalmway??is it a printing mistake or what??Guys please keep calling Comet and post the latest news.

I posted before about comet digital being a total fabrication. Its complete bullocks. If you belive it then you deserve what you get.

No matter how much you call. comet will not be going digital they simply dont have the means to do it. It's up to each person to make a decision

My advice is, don't jump to DTV at a hurry. Dish is a better option than DTV (of course if you don't have LBN in your area). It's less than 900 per month (pay directly via creadit card). Then you can get a nice DVD recorder with hard disk, using the money you save (1610-900=710). Then you'll be able to watch movies and favorite programs by skipping ads. LOL

If you watch TV whole day, and you are a movie lover, then it's ok to go for DTV. (but again, all other HBO channels show repeats of HBO)

Dish Tv will not suit the needs of Comet customers Star Movies & HBO are Indian feed with commercials. HBO signature is not availble. HBO signature has some programs which are not shown in other HBO channels

Digital dream is just a dream. They did it to mislead the TRC to show that they are trying to go digital and to keep there customer base.if they cant manage 18 channels how on earth are they gonna give us 60 channels.Even the CC guys are instrcuted to lie to there customers.

Well i dont know guys, i called cc and asked about going digitl and they assured me that they will be going digital in september as planned. they say there is no change in plans, also told that the new channel line up will be available in the program guide next month (September).

Whats going on??? me confused!!#$%@

if its true its just another 2 days.. lets wait and see

All these false info about comet is displayed by DTV dogs.
Just to give the stars channel it took them more than 2 months, comet has to change the platform itself, its not that easy to see the results in a week.
All comet customers should be happy even if they start issuing the digital decoder.

I called Comet CC they said end of September. This is fishy and suspicious.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone confirm if Comet is going digital by mid September?

Anonymous said...

They are DEFINITLY not going digital in september. I will be very surprised if they ever go digital. customer care guys are just repeating instructions given to them they dont know anything. after all c/c guys are just working there for a paltry salaray they have no option but to lie. They always say management has told like this. Ask them to give a name of the management or of the new owners and see what happens. comet is going down

As the Discovery is not there for the moment why can't the comet people give Star cricket on that channel. Atleast there wont be blank channels. They can give TV5 the french FTA channel. On that they are going to show Rugby WC 2007 live. I reckon comet wont go digital it is going down.

anon @ 8:55

i dont think they are going to show RWC 2007 in TV5. In south asia it is shown by NEO + but you can get much better coverage of matches in channel eye
