Are Multivision subagents legal?

There are several Cable companies cropping up in several areas calling themselves Multivision authorised companies and they are providing Cable TV connections for about Rs 500/= for a month. In fact there have been several Comet Cable customers complaining that they pay Rs 1200/= and more to get these channels directly from Comet whereas the subagents give all these channels plus more for Rs 500/= per month. Some examples of these sub companies are Delta Cable Vision in Wattala and a Cable TV operator in Negombo, etc. Maybe the reason for the increased cost maybe that Comet Cable provides a wireless service whereas the sub agents are on fixed wire systems.

The authorities must look into the legality of these services and issue appropriate licenses and guide them to obtain the required licenses since their customers too might be inconvienced like these CBNSat csutomers if the Police/CID raids and shuts them down.

Here are the questions that arise when it comes to the Multivision subagents
  1. Does Multivision have the authority from its content providers to distribute its content on the Fixed Wire Cable via sub agents as well as the Wireless Platform.
  2. Are the subagents granted approval by the TRC, etc
  3. Do the subagents have the authority to distribute local channels
This post is not intended to bring trouble on Multivision or sub agents like Delta Cable Vision but it is intended to make sure the authorities check these operations out and grant neccessary approval, if they do not have the approval.

I have heard a similiar operation in the Raddoluwa Housing Scheme (the pamphlet a friend bought to office "seemed" to implicate a sub-dealer of Cometcable). These sort of operations seem grossly unfair on "direct" Comet customers like us. However, at least in the Raddoluwa operation, their sound on movie channels and VH1 is not stereo thru the RF link, confirmed. (I get stereo surround via the direct MMDS link as the decoder has audio left/right outputs, and the decoder confirms same thru the display)

Multivision Management: I hope you have some tech-savvy people who read blogs sites as this, if so these sort of irregularities must be investigated.

The Raddoluwa operation is carried by the subagents who are operating from the Negombo area. The sound output is the same with all their subagents including DCV in Wattala.

Which is better when you take the direct link and the Cable link into consideration. Anyone who has used both will be able to comment on this one?

i have heard and see a same kind of sub agent in kotehena area. Not that they get huge amount of channels for 500/= the service much higher then comet. has any one experience when you phone customer care. Phone keep on ringing no one answering ???

Regarding phone ringing comment, as a customer at Comet for over 6 years, I do get that a lot, especially when reporting faults or inquiring on delays in the monthly guide.

Their call centre is of very poor service standard, accepted. Well, you can hardly call it a call centre, last time I was there, the receiptionist was answering the hotline :)

Multivision is running another Cable TV operation in Millennium City, Athurugiriya. I think investigations will have to look whether they have the licence too. To our information BOI has issued a licence to operate a cable TV station to only Ceylinco there.

Hey!

Last night I turned on my decoded and I received no channels. I waited for a while and then decided to cal Comet about it. After 5 min or so a person answered. I asked him why my service had stopped, and he said "Comet Cable does not have the ability to create anymore new connections for new customers. Please shut up you %&#&(*%(^&#$!!@# and forget cable. You aren't going to get it back. Thanks for the money!"

I don't believe it! I realy don't! I thought they had pleanty of customer capacity but not enough channel capacity. My decoder lies uselessly on top of my tv now.

Has this happened to anyone else?

COMET CABLE I HATE YOU FOR DOING THIS TO ME!

This is the first time I have heard anything like what is given above. There is absolutely no way that anyone will run out of Customer capacity.

I find it hard to believe the above post and I do not believe anyone will talk like what you have given above. So please do not post anything like this. Please use this forum in a truthful manner. I wonder whether anyone else has suffered what is given above.

I am rather surprised by this latest news of running out of capacity. I switched b/w HBO, Star Movies, ESPN, BBC, Star World, Discovery from about 8 - 11pm last night, but did not notice any outages (cannot vouch for any other channels except the above, must check that when I get home today)

Also, watched BBC and Star World in the morning today before leaving home, both were online.

no i checked star sports. it aired another FIFA match. I was watching the SL match on Derana. in second thoguht i watch ADDS on derana here and there they showd the match :D

When Rupavahini were showing the news they showed their clips via Star Sports and it showed the "Live" sign too. The Star Sports schedule says that the SL vs Eng match is LIVE via Star Sports.

Is Comet Cable recording and editing the original broadcast. I think all Comet Cable Customers should make sure that Comet Cable is not editing Satellite broadcasts.
