Comet Cable Forum

Due to increasing demand we are adding a new Forum called the Comet Cable Forum. All customers of Comet Cable are welcome to make your opinions heard on this forum. In addition they are welcome to congratulate Comet Cable and also scold them if they wish.

Firstly I would like a customer to post what are the channels Comet Cable carries since the web site does not give a clear picture.

The management of Comet Cable are also welcome to have their voice heard.

I would like the Management of Multivision to say whether they will introduce digital TV and if not why!!! They owe it to us!!

Comming soon in the Year 3000. Comet Digital

They have VH1 but not History Channel or Star Vijay.

About going digital, initially when I subscribed they said March, 2006 but now they say it won't happen for at least 6 more months.

Well considering that CBNSat has also got their problems, we may well be at least lucky to get any programmes at all.

Comet go digital ???? it‘s something like a rubber. Expanding from last year :D. I spoke to one of there markety recently (I am calling them from the day publish about digital service already paid for the digital decoder as well.) He said they have fixed the digital antenna and they doing the digital service test transitions. Now they waiting for the digital decoders to give the customers. (2 months ago. Maybe decoders are walking all the way to SL where ever the place they make the order ;) ) Maybe its one of those lies they drop me for past 3 years. I see some progress after the taken over the new management. My cable guide now come on time. And the print is good ;) . ohh and they have introduce a news letter in web. (The email is bouncing for competition) . Maybe those are the signs of things are getting managed finally. Will see mr scobe (hope I spell it correct) will deliver the stuff he promises.

I guess the digital upgrade got side-tracked due to the struggles between certain directors for control of the company. We as customers we given free shows in the Sunday papers a few years ago, I recall...

However, having been a customer for 6 years and counting, I must admire their resilience throughout the years by keeping their tranmission online, with extremely few hiccups.

Going digital may solve issues like snow, ghosting, etc, but it will also bring in new problems like pixelation (if downlinked channels are compressed too much before uplink to local MMDS transmitter), hence if you are already getting a good picture with snow-free stereo sound, consider yourself lucky :)

The only positive factor I see with Comet going digital is the added channels, and other value added services they could bundle in, but hey, as for me, the 18 channels they have brought into my living room for the past 6 years is entertainment enough, after all I have a life to live as well :)

Keep it up, Multivision! And I hope you weather the "dirty" storm with political & personal vested interests hitting some other cable operators in our country today.

Its seems some people happy with what they get. I have news for you men. Travel in bakki karatha… ohh and wear amude while you traveling. When all the technology available now. I don’t see a point we pay higher price less channels. do you know other cable operators in the world . giving broadband internet. On demand movies. Email.. tele messaging … and still there prices are cheaper to compare the stuff they give.

Hey Comet Guys !

Why don't you think of getting CBNSat ?

DTH is the future my dear friends. Please don't spend money on comet digital because it's also an outdated technology. The whole world is turning towards DVB-S DTH (Direct To Home) Television.

Anyway for the same money you pay to comet with CBNSat you get 35 channels.

looks like CBN markety posted that ..

Yeah... must be.

I use both CBNSat (Hometown) and Cometcable (Colombo home), and there are distinct advantages & disadvantages of both technologies.

Its upto the consumer to decide, after all WE are king!

hey i'm not a cbnsat markety guy. i'm an ordinary customer. i also had a comet connection in colombo. but it was not available in my home town. so i got a cbnsat for my parents. by seeing the quality of the pictures and the service you get for the same amount of money i got one for colombo too.

at the moment i have both as my comet subscription ends in december. i do not have any hope to extend comet. i stick to cbn.

can you give me any advantage of having comet over cbn ? pls !

Unless you are a lover of Star Movies, Star World and Ten Sports. Then you have no reason to stick with Comet Cable

Anonymous said...

How about un interrupt service for start :D..

Anonymous said...

I thought Comet gives Bloomberg television also. I saw a scroll in a shop at Liberty Plaza

Anonymous said...

my dear friends it's upto u 2 decide. i'm just posting the facts. Ten Sports will be on cbn soon. definitely before this december. Star package will also come in very soon. till then i have comet to watch those.

i definitely would not go for comet digital. for digital its only cbn is the best. still you didn't give me a reason to be with comet technically. channels come and go my friends !

Sorry that I have to say this but Wimax is not a technology for Cable TV broadcasting. Wimax is the long range version of WiFi.

Wimax is mainly for Internet service providing and for data communication and the speeds are not that fast as wired operators.

Wimax has diffculty when there is a Microwave Oven switched on, if there are power lines, even wet dogs are supposed to have disrupted WImax signals (it was on BBC's Click).

So the blowing out of Cable Operators by SLT Wimax may not happen soon, it may never happen.

Anonymous said...

dude. no one said wimax going to use as cable tv.they lot of money to spend . do you think it going to be a issue if they want to give cable TV..

Anonymous said...

Hey! Comet Cable has just been shut down. Oh dear!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Why cann't comet cable give the local channels like CBN sat.

Anonymous said...

Becuase they have run out of channel capacity.

The last I heard, they only have a TRC licence for 18 analogue channels in their allocated MMDS frequency range.
